The Vermont Center for Photography joins the international celebration of pinhole photography with a pinhole camera photo odyssey on Sunday, May 1 from 12:00-3:00pm. A pinhole camera is any type of light tight box or film camera with a small pinhole in place of the lens. Knowledge of the pinhole’s ability to focus an image has been known for thousands of years. It has unique and variable characteristics that vary with pinhole size and the size and shape of the box.
Sunday April 24 is World Wide Pinhole Day (WWPD) when people around the world will take pictures with their pinhole cameras. But, since April 24 this year falls on Easter, VCP will be celebrating WWPD on Sunday, May 1. Photographs taken between April 23 and May 1 can be uploaded to the official web site of World Wide Pinhole Day, http://www.pinholeday.org.
The workshop instructor is Al Karevy. Al is a commercial photographer in Keene, New Hampshire. He teaches part time at Franklin Pierce University and has been taking pinhole photographs for many years.
Sunday’s workshop runs from 12:00-3:00pm and meets at the Vermont Center for Photography at 49 Flat Street, next to the parking garage stairway in downtown Brattleboro, Vermont.
The Vermont Center for Photography, a non-profit gallery featuring fine art photography, was founded in 1998. The gallery represents photographers from Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and New York, promoting a regional community of photographers. For directions or information, please call 802-251-6051 or visit the website at http://www.vcphoto.org. or email Sarah Horowitz at info@vcphoto.org or Al Karevy at al@karevy.com.
