Phyllis Labanowski, a Conway artist currently making videos, and Ricardo Frota, a Brazilain sound artist, will explore the afterlife of people, their objects, and Christmas trees.

Labanowski will premier, The Hoarder’s Daughter, a 10-minute video. Part documentary and part performance, the video provides a compassionate window into the death of her father and the 800,000 lbs. of trash he left behind. Altars made out of objects found in the collection will be exhibited.

Inspired by the sound of trees: alive, dead, and discarded, Frota has created sound sculptures from discarded Christmas trees and the sounds found in natural objects along local rivers and forests. A seasoned multi-instrumentalist, Frota will play the installations. When he’s not there, visitors are welcome to play.

Closing Luminaria
Thurs. Oct. 31st 5-7 pm
Halfway between the Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice-Halloween, Samhain, Day of the Dead, and All Soul’s Day mark a time of year when the veil is thin between the world of the living and the world of the dead. Light a candle to honor loved ones who have passed, listen to the sound creations of Frota, and get a treat for the kids.
