A diverse group of established artists who teach at the Center for the Arts will exhibit their work in the East and West Galleries February 6th-March 5th 2009.
These local artists share a wealth of talents with our community by teaching out of their studios, at area colleges and universities and here at Northampton Center for the Arts. This is an opportunity to see a representative sampling of their work: the bold color-saturated watercolors of Nava Grunfeld, Dean Nimmer’s abstract intuitive gestures and the spatial explorations through installation by Karen Dolmanisth.
All that Jazz runs concurrently with “Jazz Masters: A World of Piano” and artist Brooke Schnabel has taken this opportunity to exhibit a series of paintings that “follow a pattern like notes in the scales, a pattern that is supposed to create a beat”. The relationship between music and art are also reflected in his teaching. “How to teach my students the music of painting on the top of all the technical skills is a difficult task,” he says. “When it emerges for them, first as a burst of color harmonies or an off balance but just right composition or the subtle and fine relationship of values, they get excited. They begin to feel the music of painting. You can’t help but feel it. It must be in our DNA.”
All that Jazz also features work by: Paula Gottlieb, Cassandra Holden, Jane Lund, Robert Masla, Robert Markey, and Deborah Rubin.
There will be an artist reception during Northampton’s Arts Night Out: Friday February 13th, 5-7pm followed by the second concert in our annual trio of solo jazz piano concerts at 7:30pm.
The galleries at Northampton Center for the Arts are open Tuesday-Friday 11-4pm and during events that are open to the public.
