“Animals are important to us,” says artist Jane Lund. “Some of them are our best friends. We love them, we abuse them, we’re allergic to them, and we eat them. From Rosa Bonheur’s horses to Walt Disney’s famous mouse, animals have always been potent subject matter for the arts. Where would Red Riding Hood be without the wolf, The Lone Ranger without Silver, Cleopatra without her asp, or Ernie Kovacs without his “Strongest Ant in the World?”
Jane asks her colleagues to ponder such matters as she presents her fifth annual invitational exhibition in the East Gallery. This creative collaboration brings together more than fifty artists including Pam Barlett, Rachel Folsom, Stephanie Gerilamatos, Amy Johnquest, Robert Markey, Ali Osborn, Betsy Stone, Gregory Thorp, Tom Ulrich, and Frank Ward to celebrate our furry (and not so furry) animal friends. The zoo of inspired works showcases a range of mediums including photography, painting, and sculpture.
Join the artists for a festive opening reception featuring the music of West County Jazz on Friday, December 11, 5pm-8pm. Regular gallery hours are 11am-4pm, Tuesday through Friday. The gallery is closed on Christmas but open on New Year's Eve until midnight!
