"My recent work is a series of small (4” to 6”) mixed media constructions," says Milot, a Professor of Art at Framingham State College. "I take photographs of skies and horizons that are then cropped and mounted on wood panels. On each photograph I add a system of drilled holes, wires and nails that interrupt the recognizable images. The two systems (photograph and wire construction) exist together in a state of tension. I want the work to contrast vast spaces with an exaggeratedly small scale and the uncontrollable elements of land and sky with orderly systems. If maps are diagrams that impose order and a way of understanding the space we live in, my linear wire configurations impose a flat diagram on the spaces depicted in the photographs to subvert a clear reading of the image."
The exhibition runs May 4-29, 2010. Gallery hours are 11am-4pm, Tuesday-Friday.
