Photographer Bill Rowley introduces work from his “Macrostracts” portfolio during the month of February in the Center’s East Gallery. Through images, the artist “tackles the challenge of searching out the beauty in the commonplace and oft-overlooked objects of daily life and discount stores.” An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, February 11, 5-7pm, during Northampton’s Arts Night Out.
Rowley lives and photographs in Florence. He has been in love with photography since receiving a Minolta SRT-SCII as a Christmas gift in the early 80s. Shooting mostly Kodachrome slides, he enjoyed a little success at that time through a long-defunct Northampton gallery and various private print sales. The requirements of making a living then began to demand the energy and time that might have gone to photography, and for nearly a quarter century the camera stayed in the bag. When Bill finally emerged from the workforce, the world had gone digital, so now his shooting is done with a Canon EOS 50D. He does all of his own printing with an Epson Pro Stylus 3800, and he mats and frames his own work.
Regular gallery hours are 11am-4pm, Tuesday through Friday. The gallery is also open during certain public events over the weekend. Call the Center for details.
