Seventh and eighth graders at the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School (PVPA) in South Hadley present their original art, writing, and music in solidarity with children around the world who have been affected by war and conflict. In their Humanities class, students read Deborah Ellis' Children of War: Voices of Iraqi Refugees and learned about the many ways children suffer as a result of war, such as becoming refugees or child soldiers, losing family members or limbs to fighting or land mines, and becoming ill due to depleted uranium, lack of medical care, clean water, adequate food, or emotional trauma.
In sharing the stories of children of war, the students of PVPA hope to raise awareness for the need to end wars by giving a voice to children who have lost everything. Please join them for an evening of learning, sharing, and art. Refreshments will be available for donation. All funds collected will be donated to Collateral Repair Project, a grassroots organization working to improve the lives of Iraqi refugees in Jordan.
