For the past four years the University Gallery and the Department of Art, Architecture and Art History have offered a spring workshop to undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing a museum career. participation of experts from the museum world come to UMass, Amherst to discuss the challenges of museum and gallery work and give insight into job opportunities in the art world.

This year, the panelists include Jonathan Greenberg, Marjory Jacobson, and Trevor Smith.

Some background information on this year's panelists:

Jonathan Greenberg
As Sotheby’s Senior Vice President, Greenberg has been with Sotheby’s since 1999. Currently he prepares catalogs and exhibits for the Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary art sales biannually as well as devoting time to business generation, appraisals, and other sales.

Marjory Jacobson:
Former Director of MIT's Hayden Gallery (now the MIT List Visual Arts Center), Board Member, and various committee chairs of the List Visual Arts Center; she is an independent curator, private collector, and adviser to various private collectors. She is author of the following books: Art for Work: The New Renaissance in Corporate Collecting and Art and Business: New Strategies for Corporate Collecting

Trevor Smith:
Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art, Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, MA, his mission is to present modern and contemporary art in the context of the museum’s rich international history and collections. His strong record and talent for creating lively connections across time, cultures, mediums, and disciplines, he explores culture in its broadest possible contexts.
