"I paint self-portraits because I am the person I know best." Frida Kahlo
"Self-portraiture is a singular in-turned art. Something eerie lurks in its fingering of the edge between seer and seen."(Julian Bell)
Looking in the mirror will you draw what you see or what you want to see? We will spend four sessions drawing the self-portrait from life. Proportion, values, line quality and gesture help you get a likeness while simple materials such as charcoal and a limited color palette of black, red, and white frees you up to focus on drawing and expression. Contemporary portraiture will be our inspiration. This class is appropriate for the beginner level as well as the more experienced artist. The fee is $160 plus supply list below.
