Youth Action Coalition (YAC) and GirlsEyeView (GEV) invite the community to attend "Emergence: Springing Into Focus," an exhibit of photographic works-in-progress by the GirlsEyeView participants. A reception to celebrate the work will be held on March 24 from 5:30-7pm, with a presentation by the artists at 6pm. Light snacks will be provided.
This exhibit showcases a project in which the girls first chose 12-15 songs to represent the soundtracks of their lives and then took on the task of creating a CD cover to house the soundtrack in. This project was
a new way for GirlsEyeView members to explore the world of self-portraits and self-expression. Music is an important way to connect to others in our community and among our peers.
The photographers are 7th and 8^th graders from Amherst Regional Middle School who take part in the GirlsEyeView program, now in its 10^th year in Amherst. GirlsEyeView promotes youth empowerment through photography and creative writing. In the safe space of an all-girl group, participants delve into issues that matter to them while also learning about black and white manual photography, from shooting to developing film to enlarging prints.
The photographs will be available for sale. Proceeds will be divided to benefit the photographer, GirlsEyeView, and Healthy Families (a program for first time teen parents).
