Anne Krauss’ interest in storytelling is evident in her digital illustrations and encaustic works containing themes related to memory, meditations on the vastness of time, and relationship. Her work includes layered imagery incorporating textile fabrics, family remnants, and travel photography taken by her partner D.J. Rosen.
Paintings and sculptures by Susie Reiss, whose elegantly layered abstractions evoke a sense of seismic landscape. Informed by a keen sense of color and texture, each work evolves from a process of layering and peeling away skins of fabric that are either left in place or leave their trace like a memory on the surface of her substrate.
Lisa Foster’s large scale paintings are nude self portraits which are “patched-up” with reproduction quilting fabrics. Curator/Dealer Scott Lickstein stated: “Her life sized, mixed media, self portraits known as “Lisa Shapes” command complete attention when encountered. It is a sensation that could be likened to a meeting as much as a viewing.”
Although their art forms and techniques may differ, a common thread uniting this selection of works by Foster, Reiss, and Krauss is their interest in a multi-layered creative process and relationship to textile sensibility.
