"Young people everywhere have been allowed to choose between love and a garbage disposal unit. Everywhere they have chosen the garbage disposal unit."
Guy Debord
William J. Sieruta was born in Springfield, Massachusetts and grew up in nearby Holyoke, MA. He first studied painting at Holyoke Community College, where he was awarded numerous recognitions. This paved the way for his eventual acceptance into the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's post-baccalaureate program in painting. In Chicago, William was able to study with noted artists from the Chicago Imagist school, including Jim Nutt, Karl Wirsum, and Richard Hull.
Williams current work is an exploration of the interplay of aspects of high and low culture, combining obscure art historical references with overtly pop visual quotations creating a unique personal reality that is complex, colorful and strange.
William Sieruta currently lives and maintains a studio outside of Amherst, Massachusetts. He will be returning to Chicago in September to complete his Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
