Amherst Cinema is pleased to announce that two sculptures by Pelham artist Holland Hoagland will be on display in the lobby of the cinema for the month of June. Hoagland’s sculptures are the first two works of art to be displayed at Amherst Cinema since opening in 2006. An opening reception will be held during Amherst Art Walk from 5-8pm on Thursday June 4.
“Refugees” was created to raise awareness and reflect upon the world’s humanitarian crisis and forced displacement of refugees around the world. “Hope” is represented in a multi-ethnic figure. The sculpture was inspired by a striking black and white image (by photographer B. Bretz) of a woman listening to Barack Obama’s speech in Grant Park.
