I think of the work in this exhibition is an example of ‘visual alchemy’. It begins with photography: capturing images of deteriorating objects or surfaces like oxidized metal, chipped paint, aspects of the landscape, and objects of interest like the remnants of The Berlin Wall. I find inspiration in the contrasts, both sensory and intangible in the city of Berlin (Germany) a place where things past and things present exist in a tangle. Boundaries are everywhere, and nowhere, memory is tangible. In the work, digital imagery is applied onto a digital canvas, and by blending and arranging as if applying paint, new impressions of shape and color organically emerge as abstractions born from the real world. The viewer is invited to decipher the parts or simply absorb the new whole.
