Introduction to Black and White Photograph

Dates and Times: Sunday, July 17, 10am-3pm and Sunday, July 24, 10am-3pm

Fees: $135 Members, $150 Non-Members (includes much of the materials)

Description:

This workshop is for people interested in learning basic traditional Black and White Photography. We will discuss types of films, explore exposure, and do some shooting during the workshop time. There will be hands on film processing instruction, handling and viewing negatives in the VCP darkroom. Depending on how things progress and on participant interest, we may spend time covering printing, or film handling.

Minimum number of participants is four, with a maximum of 10.

Instructor Bio(s):

The workshop will be taught by Geoff Bluh, who is a photographer from Western Mass who is a professional Black and White printer. He prints for a variety of clients who need high quality, archival black and white photographs made from their negatives. His approach in the darkroom is to use experience, and intuition to find the limits, and push them a little, of the medium of silver based photography.Besides working in his darkroom, Geoff is also a staff photographer for “The Recorder” newspaper. This job requires lots of adaptability and using new technologies, thus full initiation into digital photography. Geoff began his photography experience as a student of Tom Young at Greenfield Community College in the early ‘80’s, discovering the possibilities of large format landscape photography. This remains his main style of personal work, which he has exhibited in a variety of places over the past 25 years.
