Lineage: Three Generations of Women Artists is an exhibition of painting, drawing, printmaking and photography by three generations of women artists - daughter, mother and grandmother. Rina Goldfield (b. 1987) received her early art training in the Northampton public schools, and went on to study art at the Cooper Union in NYC.Sandra Matthews (b. 1951) has worked in photographic collage for more than three decades, and teaches at Hampshire College. Magdalen Ibi Matthews (b. 1922) studied art originally at the Manchester Regional College of Art in England, earned a second degree in art from Webster University in St. Louis, and has lived in Northampton for the past twelve years. All three have been teachers of art, and all have found ways to continue making art while working at other jobs. Their work collectively spans several periods of contemporary artistic thought, during which time opportunities for women artists have also changed. With a shared passion for working in visual media, each of these artists has found ways to engage with her historical moment.
