Youth Action Coalition invites the community to attend an exhibition of original photography, sculptures, masks, and video by YAC participants. Called Making Our Way, this signature end-year event will showcase the work of youth from all four YAC programs: GirlsEyeView Amherst & Ware, Get Up Get Down and Video Vanguards. The open house will begin at 5pm at the Nacul Center Gallery in Amherst, and the artists will speak about their work and their programs at 6pm. There will be light refreshments donated by the Fresh Side. The event is free, and donations to support YAC’s work are greatly appreciated. Gift certificates donated by local businesses, including Antonio’s Pizza, Henion Bakery, Amherst Books and the Mercantile, will be raffled off during reception.
Making Our Way is the culmination of a year-long effort to develop an all-YAC identity. “Bringing the artwork created by all YAC programs together into one gallery show is a great opportunity to continue to foster collaboration and dialogue among youth and the community,” says Hannah Fjeld, YAC’s AmeriCorps member.
Youth Action Coalition (YAC) is a non-profit community organization based in Amherst. YAC’s goal is to facilitate youth empowerment through a variety of programs and activities which promote self-esteem, creative expression, leadership development and youth activism. By encouraging these skills, YAC hopes to connect youth with their peers and adults and to create a dialogue which will address issues of concern to them.
