UNITE will host a gallery reception for local artist, Matt Glushien on December 10th, from 6-9pm; refreshments will be served. Matt Glushien’s work will be on display during the month of December.
Artist Matt Glushien is New England born and raised. Through traditional plein air painting, Matt explores the medium while being actively influenced by the natural elements, which act as both a cradle and a hurdle with. The directness of creating art while spending the day outside – at the whim of an uncontrolled environment – frees him to sink into the sub-conscious and work instinctually. In addition to the challenges of outdoor work, some guidance can be found in the landscape itself, making transcendent work less elusive. In stark contrast to his painting, Matt’s woodblock prints are the result of a more traditional conscientiousness and plain physical labor, and require time for meditation on decisions that will affect the finished work.
Oil Paintings, drawings, and woodblock prints will be on view throughout the month of December at UNITE.
