Event Description

Michael Van Winkle transforms tabletop still lives to create dynamic abstract paintings brimming with bold patterns and colors. He is able to present "an exciting relationship to the history of painting as well as to our common domestic experience." His work also "provides a flexible space where abstraction, pattern, and the subtle meaning of materials and actions create an energized visual friction." Through this play, Van Winkle creates a "mysterious dialogue among painted characters, patterned surfaces, objects, symbols and signs opening a kinetic relational space."

After receiving an MFA in 2008 from the State University of New York at Albany in Albany, NY, Van Winkle moved to Easthampton where he now lives and has a studio. Van Winkle also teaches as an Adjunct Instructor at The College of St. Rose in Albany, NY.
