Milan Dragicevich's new original play, “Milosevic at the Hague” traces the shock waves unleashed by Slobodan Milosevic’s rise to power, from the Balkans to the
United States, and explores the charismatic personalities that attached themselves to his fate. How does an obscure low-level party official discover his
populist appeal? What role did his wife-comrade, the zealous Mira Markovic, play in Milosevic’s ascent? The intoxication of power runs like a mad river through the play, sweeping up all onlookers at its edges, including the ferocious and unforgettable Carla Del Ponte--Chief War Crimes Prosecutor at the Hague.
This play asks key questions about the role of avenging angels, like NATO, in combating a tyrannical regime. Will the use of massive bombing set the world
aright? Who should be held responsible for the indiscriminate bombing of civilian targets? When do the ends justify the means? The play asks whether the
mighty of the world are exempt from the very same laws imposed on the defeated.
