Announcing the first ever Northampton Community Television Member Night. This event is open to both NCTV members and nonmembers alike. The event take place Monday, November 9th between 6:30 and 9:30pm in the Frances P. Crowe Community Room at the Media Education Foundation (near Woodstar Café) at 60 Masonic St. in Northampton.
This is an opportunity to meet some of your fellow producers, talk about dreams, aspirations, and projects for NCTV. This is a time to start forming a crew to work with at the ground level. Refreshments and food will be provided.
The November 9, 2009 NCTV Member Night speaker is none other than Northampton lawyer Peter Irvine. Having spent 20 years in the entertainment business, Peter offers a firsthand understanding of, and pragmatic solutions to, the situations of his creative clients. Services include advising on contracts, copyright, trademarks, litigation and licensing.
Topics of the evenings talk will include issues that producers at Northampton Community Television may face. What kinds of music, images, and copyrighted works can you use in your productions? Can you air a performance of a band playing cover music? What is Fair Use and how can you utilize it in your work? What is Creative Commons? Please join us for an informative night on these and other obstacles one can face when producing in a community media environment.
Peter Irvine has an extensive background in the arts, on both the creative and business sides. He became an attorney specifically to help make accessible to artists the often impenetrable, obtuse and confounding world of legal issues and language. As an accomplished musician Peter has performed in bands including Cordelia’s Dad and at events including the Academy Awards, Newport Folk Festival, All Things Considered, and the Iron Horse Music Hall.
