Youth Action Coalition and GirlsEyeView (GEV) invite the community to attend a traveling exhibition of original photography, writing and collage by the GirlsEyeView participants. Called “Nothing’s Perfect”, the project is a homemade zine exploring issues such as feminine beauty in the media, suicide, the environment, and love and relationships. There will be a reception in Amherst from 5:30-7pm on Tuesday, February 2. The exhibition will move to Ware in March, with a reception on Monday, March 1 from 4-6pm. Light snacks will be provided at both events. Copies of the completed zine will be available for the public.
GirlsEyeView is a program of Youth Action Coalition (YAC), a non-profit community organization based in Amherst. YAC’s goal is to facilitate youth empowerment through a variety of programs and activities which promote self-esteem, creative expression, leadership development and youth activism. By encouraging these skills, YAC hopes to connect youth with their peers and adults and to create a dialogue which will address issues of concern to them.
GirlsEyeView is made possible by YAC’s fabulous individual donors, Amherst Regional Middle School Club Funds, the Community Foundation of Western MA, the Newcastle Foundation, Gone Giving - an anonymous giving circle of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, and by the following Local Cultural Councils, which are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency: Amherst, Leverett, Pelham, Shutesbury, and Ware.
