The public is invited to an Arts Night Out opening reception on Friday, December 14, 5-7 pm in the East Gallery. Van Winkle's work will also be on display during First Night festivities from noon until late on December 31st.

Michael Van Winkle transforms tabletop still lives to create dynamic abstract paintings brimming with bold patterns and colors. He is able to present "an exciting relationship to the history of painting as well as to our common domestic experience." His work also "provides a flexible space where abstraction, pattern, and the subtle meaning of materials and actions create an energized visual friction." Through this play, Van Winkle creates a "mysterious dialogue among painted characters, patterned surfaces, objects, symbols and signs opening a kinetic relational space."
