Peter Blanchette returns to the Center for the Arts for the fifth installment of what has become a beloved tradition in Northampton, an annual recital of music in celebration of Johann Sebastian Bach.
All seats are $12. Advance tickets are available online at archguitar.com. They are also sold at the door beginning at 6 pm on the evening of the performance.
The evening includes opening remarks by Western New England Public Radio's John Montanari. Once again Blanchette will perform a night of Bach: music from his upcoming recording of the Partita for flute solo, BWV 1013, and other excerpts from the next installment in his comprehensive series of Bach solo recordings for the archgutiar. Joined by Boston area soprano Teresa Peacock, he will also premiere his arrangements of some of the great four-voice chorales, transcribed for solo Soprano voice with archguitar accompaniments based on the other three voices, Bass, Tenor and Alto. These jewels of harmonic perfection, many based on the actual hymn tunes of Martin Luther, are seldom heard in concerts, despite their elevated place in musical history.
