This is the world premiere of a new solo show from writer/performer Jonathan Mirin and the Piti Theatre Company. The play, "a comedic twist to living with chronic illness,” provides the audience with an opportunity to be highly entertained while connecting with a community of those who journey – often silently and painfully – along the lonely, rocky path of illness and incapacity.
Mirin, whose 20 years combating Crohn’s Disease inspired this powerful piece, offers the audience a comedic, autobiographical look at getting sick, getting better and growing up. From womb to adulthood, he takes us on a wild ride with original songs, puppetry, clowning, 18-plus characters and a high energy, physical performance style.
The title 28 FEET comes from the average length of the digestive tract which suffers from inflammation in Crohn’s and other inflammatory bowel diseases. The show is directed and designed by Godeliève Richard, a Swiss native who shares Piti’s Artistic Director title with Mirin.
Mirin’s first solo performance – Riding the Wave.com – was the subject of a front-page feature in the New York Times Business Section and nominated twice by the Independent Reviewers of New England for Best Solo Show.
All tickets are $10 and are available at the door or in advance at (413) 584-7327. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Northampton Arts Council.
