This exhibition in the East Gallery is indeed a "reflection" of how Riggs approaches her work. Using the 35mm format, her recurring theme is everyday objects captured in unfamiliar or abstract ways, creating a puzzle for the viewer to figure out. She does not manipulate or crop images and uses only available light. "Reflections fascinate me," says Riggs. "They bring out the finest elements of contemporary photography and have been a favorite subject for years. Multiple layers of information and movement integrated on a single surface create images that transcend beyond the literal. "Reflections are ruminations for life,” she continues."Nothing we experience is simply surface deep, there are caveats and dimensions to most everything, some visible, some not, and some just below the surface of our consciousness.” Denise M. Riggs received a bachelor of Fine Arts in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her work has been exhibited widely in the Savannah, GA and Worcester, MA areas. She served for many years on the Easthampton Cultural Council and is founding member of Easthampton City Arts. Regular gallery hours are 11am-4pm, Tuesday through Friday. The gallery is also open during selected public events. |
