A variety of titular spellings provide us with a colourful map of the violoncello's development in the Baroque era: Violoncino, Violonzino, Violonzell, Viulunzelo, Bassel, Bassettel, etc. Jennifer Morsches takes us on a journey highlighting those pioneering cellists and composers who made an indelible mark on the cello, and contributed to its development as an instrument of expression and authority.
