The Northampton Arts Council will host a special grant information session to discuss the upcoming ArtsEZ spring 2010 grant cycle on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, 6pm in the old Dynamite Records space/Thornes Marketplace basement, 150 Main Street, Northampton. The deadline for applications is Friday, May 14, 2010. For guidelines and an application, go to: northamptonartscouncil.org
At this event, we will present how someone puts together a grant application for consideration to the Arts Council review committee for the ArtsEZ spring grant round, and showcase some past grant recipients work, including painter Barbara Neulinger and filmmaker Julie Akeret. Barbara and Julie will both speak about their artwork at this event.
Barbara Neulinger grew up in Queens, NY and received her BS in Art from Skidmore College and her MFA in Painting from Indiana University. Her current body of work explores intertwining and overlapping knot forms amid a world of intuitively painted washes. The paintings explore the intrinsic beauty of line and of useful things (such as the nautical knots). She received a grant last spring from the Northampton Arts Council in support of a group show at A.P.E. at Window.
Julie Akeret has worked in film and video since 1983 and is the producer-director of numerous documentary films. Someone Sang for Me highlights the life and work of Jane Sapp, a powerful, highly regarded performer, songwriter, recording artist, and educator. Theatre on the Edge: The Laboratory Theatre of Double Edge will be an hour-long documentary examining the innovative work of Double Edge Theatre, the internationally recognized theater company based in Ashfield, Massachusetts. Julie received a grant from the Northampton Arts Council in support of Someone Sang for Me in 2001, and received a grant last fall for her current work on Theatre on the Edge.
The Northampton Arts Council, Inc's ArtsEZ Spring 2010 grant round is a locally supported arts grant round. This spring the Arts Council will be awarding up to $20,000 for projects taking place in Northampton, Leeds, or Florence, and between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011. This money was raised at last summer's Transperformance 19: LookStock and the recent Four Sundays in February '10 series. Please review the Arts EZ Spring 2010 guidelines for criteria and eligibility requirements.
Guidelines and applications for the ArtsEZ grant round are available at our website: northamptonartscouncil.org
