SUE KATZ
Sue Katz refers to her abstract works as "constructs," which combine encaustic painting and found objects. Formally and thematically her work is often about the square and the rectangle made of two squares. This proportion is from the Japanese tatami mat. There is a place for one to lie down or two to sit – the nature of being alone and together with others. Recently, she added two more squares for the four living generations in her family -- herself, her mother, her daughter and her grandchild -- expanding the diptych to the quadratic sequence.
JOZAN TRESTON
"Aerialscapes" is the name of Jozan Treston's new body of work. These abstract paintings were inspired by aerial photographs of the earth. Looking at some of NASA's early images of the earth's surface as seen from space, he noticed that the patterning seen from that distance is abstracted, like a painting, and these new pieces evolved from those observations.
