Forbes Library presents a free outdoor concert by folk-country rising stars The Sweetback Sisters on Wednesday evening, June 30 at 7 PM. This event is co-sponsored by the Coolidge Museum and Local History Collection of Forbes Library as a tie-in to the Pioneer Valley History Networks 2010 Folk Arts program.
The rollicking country swing of the Sweetback Sisters is as infectious as it is heartbreaking. Their whimsical exterior is wrapped around a core of deeply felt love for traditional country music styles and a palpable joy in playing and singing together. Their repertoire combines several of the Sisters' passions -- country music from before they were born and new interpretations of those traditions -- to create a fresh take on what it means to be country.
The Sweetback line-up features the lavish voices of Zara Bode (a PVPA alumna) and Emily Miller joined by an all-star cast of instrumentalists including: West Virginian triple threat Jesse Milnes; Stefan Amidon on drums; Philly's stringed slayer Ross Bellenoit on rippin' Telecaster, and a the newest Sweetback Sister Bridget Kearney on bass.
Their debut EP Bang! was released in early 2007 and earned them a spot on A Prairie Home Companion's talent contest for twenty-somethings. Their first full-length album Chicken Ain't Chicken was released in 2009 on Signature Sounds Recordings. This April , they were featured on Mountain Stage on NPR.
Refreshments will be for sale by the Friends of Forbes.
