A "Soul-Stirring" Musical Tradition
The Sacred Harp Community will hold its Western Massachusetts Sacred Harp Singing Convention from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, March 7-8. The convention promotes community-based singing from the Sacred Harp, which has been continuously in print since 1844 and is the backbone of one of this country’s oldest, most vital and soul-stirring musical traditions. You have to sing it to believe it, as they say. No experience (or admission fee) is necessary. (Actually it’s quite an experience in itself!) You can come and go as you please and there is a potluck dinner at noon both days. (The convention has no institutional, religious or political affiliation, but fosters the fellowship that sacred Harp singing engenders.)
