The Senegal America Project’s Benefit Concert will call together extraordinary performers in a collaborative spectacle of rhythm-driven music and dance. The evening’s performances will mix tradition with innovation, Jazz with World Music, and Spoken Word with West African Hip-Hop.
Featured performers include:
From the US: Tony Vacca and World Rhythms Ensemble. Described as “an earthy fusion of Jazz, World Music and Spoken Word,” this group has performed throughout America and in Senegal as well. They are also six-time recipients of The Valley Advocate’s Grand Band Slam “Best in World Music.”
From Senegal, West Africa: Gokh-bi System. “GBS” is recognized as one of the most innovative in Senegal’s red-hot music, dance, and Hip-Hop scene. They were a big hit at last year’s Montreal Jazz Festival.
Special guests from Senegal include dancer Abdou Sarr, and kora player, Boubacar Diebate.
The Senegal-America Project is a non-profit, up-close-and-personal model for practicing the most essential principal of human interactions: “we are all connected.” We focus on meaningful collaborations that create transformational responses to what we share of common issues and common ground.
This Benefit Concert is to support the Project’s many non-profit, urgent health care and educational initiatives in Senegal, and what it takes to make them happen. To date we have: Funded new schools, distributed 2750 free mosquito nets in high risk areas, sponsored free health-care screenings and follow-up treatment.
HELP US CONTINUE.
