The Loft Parlor is pleased to present an exhibition of works on paper by Rachel Thern. Underlying Movement will be on view from September 3rd through September 26th, 2014. The artist's reception will be during Easthampton's Second Saturday ArtWalk, September 13th from 5-8PM. The gallery is located on the third floor of Mill 180. The hours are Monday through Friday, from 10AM-5PM or by appointment.
Thern works separately between two mediums, oil pastel and acrylic-based ink. These mediums are united in the insistence on the exploration of natural gesture through a process based form of repetition and interaction as a way to uncover patterns that emerge through this process. Curvi-linear and organic forms take shape, suggestive of biologic and biomorphic forms. Works from both series will be on view in gallery I and II.
Rachel Thern was born in Philadelphia, but grew up on Long Island. She studied for two years at the Maryland Institute College of Art and then completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the State University of New York, University at Buffalo where she also received a BA in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science. She has spent time living in San Diego and Baltimore. She currently lives in Western Massachusetts and is an associate member of Kingston Gallery in Boston.
