Nava Grunfeld is best known for her oversized, color-saturated watercolor paintings. However, for a time she devoted herself to a career in graphic design, an experience that shaped the still life paintings she creates today. “The objects I paint are merely abstract shapes of pattern and color to me,” she says. “I have concentrated on adding high intensity color, strong light and unusual perspective to everyday objects, figures and floral. Each painting is layered with many transparent veils of color, giving it an intense color-saturated luminosity. What I paint is simple. How I put it together is not.” By taking watercolor to a new level, Grunfeld has gained a national reputation for her bold and luminous paintings. "This exhibition," says Grunfeld, "will incorporate all three phases of my art career: yesterday, today and tomorrow. The show will include some of my early figure drawings, my more recent saturated watercolor paintings of still life objects, plus studies and explorations for future paintings. Where it all takes me is still a mystery."
