A FREE after school art program for teenagers so they can...
Cultivate their creativity.
Experiment with different kinds of materials including recycled, upcycled, and free.
Work and play with different art processes and techniques.
Meet and work with local artists.
Participate in local public art projects.
And, have fun.
Funding will help support this new program at The Art Garden in Shelburne Falls created in response to continued budget cuts in art programs in our local public schools. Co-facilitated by local artists Phyllis Labanowski and Jane Beatrice Wegscheider, ARTeens will support teens to develop a life-long art practice and to find their place in our communities as emerging artists. Local artists will be invited to the program to share their own art practices with the teens. Participating in a program at The Art Garden will introduce teens to an intergenerational community of creative people through activities that already exist: community exhibits and receptions, other cultural programs, and public art projects.
In order to accommodate the busy schedule of teens, there are three sessions providing three opportunities to enter the program:
Fall (6 weeks) Oct. 22-Dec. 3
Winter (6 weeks) Jan. 7-Feb. 11
Spring (8 weeks) April 1-May 28.
Teens can apply to participate in one, two or all three sessions.
The Fall session begins 10/22/13.
