Created for the Zea Mays Printmaking portfolio, "10." In 1617-1619 an epidemic brought by European explorers spread through coastal New England. By the time the Mayflower arrived, an estimated 90% of the native population had died. The central figure is from the 1630 seal of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The red shape surrounding the figure is a depiction of the smallpox virus. 13" x 10" (33 x 25.5 cm) image size, Japanese woodblock print made with 6 shina plywood blocks, 16 hand-rubbed impressions on Nishinouchi. Edition: 25 plus 5 APs
