Artist Statement/Bio

Ashley Parent was raised and continues to reside in the picturesque town of Conway. Her paintings do not mirror the rolling hills the area is famous for; instead she draws inspiration from the vivid colors and people
around her to evoke various emotions through her work. Ashley’s primary focus is on the figure, with a marked concentration on the portrait. She also has a strong background in sculpture, through experience of working with her mother who has been a professional ceramicist for over 30 years. Ashley was fortunate to study for a semester in the beautiful city of Florence, Italy. There she learned the techniques of stone sculpture and realized carving, along with painting, was one of her great passions. She is currently in her final year of studying oil painting at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
