We’re going to point it out to you, we’re going to change it, and then we are going to change you.
The Tranzdance project is a Dance/Theater ensemble that works on and in the margins. We want to play in the margins between dance and theater, between classical and epistemic technique, and between reflection and creation. This project has it eyes and heart on social justice with a commitment to truth telling. We want to move beyond making work that has a social consciousness; we want the very investigation, the praxis of the “work making” to resemble a commitment to social justice “justice in the seed”. The seed of the work will be social justice the way we tend it will be after this consciousness, so it will reflect that very same consciousness as this well kept seed blooms.
We use voice, text, and movement to create a theater that is inevitably connected to us, and that has pieces of our own universal truths in it. It’s through this narrative and anti-narrative that we will uncover the strings of humanness that bind us together and those strings that hold us captive from knowing our true selves. We hope to bring fresh analysis to gender, culture, and performance.
We want to use a performance vocabulary that is as minimalist as pedestrian movement and at the same time that is as expansive and complex as we are. We want to create structures and limitations and then recklessly abandon those very structures to find liberation in our limbs and in our hearts.
