Dolls is a collection of body-centered adornments created from references to the curious world of paper dolls. The carefully chosen sections of this children’s game are taken from their original use as a toy that you adorn, to being jewelry that is adorned. These pieces question issues of beauty, disgust, and the idea of ornamentation. Just as a child may explore the body and its relation to what is put on it, the pieces in this collection use their original function and create a cycle of the process. The doll is intended to be adorned. It is then garnished with jewels and used to adorn the player’s body. Building from research on archetypes, stereotypes, human oddities, and adornment, this body of work repositions the expectations between human perceptions and notions of adornment.
