I strive for a sense of space in my paintings, creating the illusion of depth and foreground. I am always drawn to the ways paint can be applied to a surface, creating textures, gestural marks and particularly color combinations. I paint the spirit of places or landscapes I have experienced, sometimes influenced by my political views either as impressions or complete abstractions. One of my series of figures resulted in a series of nursing home residents painted in a surrealistic manner.
I received a B.S. in Design from the University of Michigan as a painting major. I completed a Teacher's Certification in Art and an M.A.T. in Fine Arts, with a painting major from Indiana University.
I taught for 8 years in he Education Program at the G.W.V. Smith Art Museum, Springfield, MA, and one year each at Holyoke Community College, MA. I taught art for 25 years in the Amherst, MA public schools.
