Artist Statement/Bio

I do unique mixed media collage work with a sense of humor. I make both functional art (small hand-collaged purses) and wall pieces. Every object I make is unique; every collage is original.
I construct my collages using a variety of materials old and new. I love vintage animal imagery, and often use out-of-copyright images as templates, which I then hand-color with watercolor, colored pencil, pastels, and other media. These pieces are carefully cut out and arranged together with other images, papers, and materials on a base paper to form the collage. Some more coloring and touch-ups may also be added at this point.
I think of what I do as a form of folk art -- myself being the "folk" who makes it. I've had a little art training, mostly in traditional painting techniques. I like the more free-spirited work I'm doing now, and I also like the positive responses I've received so far.I'm a member of the Artisans of Western Massachusetts, a non-profit organization seeking to promote recognition of the diverse work of artisans and artists in Western Massachusetts.
