The rooms in which my images take place invoke ideas of home. At the same time, they refer to the interior world of thought and feeling. I begin by constructing an architectural foundation, and then proceed to inhabit the space with figures and props which interact in an implied narrative.
I mine art images from every period of history for ideas and inspiration, and include them in my work both directly and indirectly. I am fascinated by what happens when different artistic traditions meet within an image. The flexibility of collage allows me to weave together found images with a variety of processes and media, such as woodcut, linocut, drawing and painting.
In this work I explore themes of connection and separation, and the complexities of human interaction. I seek to create an emotional world that can be entered and contemplated.
So sorry that I won't be able to make it tonight to your opening- heading out of town for holiday weekend. Will try to get there during regular hours to see the show. Have a great opening!
