What is important? Survival.
What do I need to survive? Bread-Water-Shelter.
What do I need to do to insure my survival?
The elements of life and need are the foundation of my work. As ideas expand and contract, the basic elements will remain: bread-water-shelter, survival.
Themes will cycle though my drawings and paintings. Many timely topics are on the surface, but the underlying thread in my work is the same, Bread-Water-Shelter. My paintings are layered, layered in meaning, layered in materials, layered in imagery. These layers show the evidence of time and set up a hierarchy of interest. I allow imagery to come through depending on degrees of relevance and over all formal importance. Paint buries irrelevant or shallow concerns. The end result is the evidence of a search for understanding rather than overt political rhetoric.
