The Greater Springfield-UMass Amherst Partnership: Downtown Economic Development and Arts & Culture. The Partnership began with the signing of an Memorandum Of Understanding between the City of Springfield and the University of Massachusetts Amherst in late 2008. The first year of the Partnership was devoted to creating an inventory of UMass Amherst on-going or completed projects and activities in Springfield. The Partnership also reached out to key stake holders to learn more about their needs, interests and expectations. After that first year, I was given the task to focus on downtown Springfield; economic development and arts & culture. With the specific charge to create a UMass Amherst footprint in downtown.
