Melinda Buckwalter, dance writer and researcher, is the author of Composing While Dancing: An Improviser’s Companion and is co-editor of Contact Quarterly, the dance and improvisation journal, since 2005. She has served as a co-curator of the SEEDS (Somatic Experiments in Earth, Dance + Science) festival of arts and ecology. She studied dance at Bennington College where she received her MFA and lives in Cummington, Massachusetts, with her husband John Selfridge. Currently she works for the Five College Center for East Asian Studies at Smith College and is learning to speak Chinese. She continues to develop a constellation of interests in East Asia, including qigong, Jin Shin Jyutsu, and research in the aesthetics of Japanese dance and theater.
