Missy Ashton was born and raised in the Pioneer Valley and has strong ties to the nature, people and culture there. She's always finding new sources of inspiration, from the metaphysical shop in Northampton where she works to the historical architecture around the corner to the area's vibrant music scene. Missy's background includes a long history in dance and movement; a degree in business management and marketing; and a current gig at a local clay studio. "I use art as a meditative emotional release," she says, adding that she tends to gravitate toward acrylics, metallic paints, gold and silver leaf pens, ink and color pencils and clay. But the 27-year-old doesn't limit herself to a particular medium. Though she primarily focuses on surface design, her diverse works can be found hanging in yoga studios, retailers and cafes all over the Valley, and she recently launched a line of casual clothing screenprinted with her designs. Missy is always on the lookout for new places to explore and people with interesting, unique perspectives to share. When she's not making art, she loves to travel, hike, bike and dance--but she's glad to let someone else do the cooking.
