Artist Statement/Bio

From an early age, Sophie Maguire was a member of the Isadora Duncan Yough Ensemble, where she traveled to Hungary, The Czech Republic, Scotland, and Hawaii. Sophie graduated magna cum laude and with honors in dance from Connecticut College (May, 2010), where she studied with and danced for David Dorfman, Shani Collins, Heidi Henderson, Adele Myers, Lisa Race, Robyne Watkin, Nicholas Leichter, Monica bill Barnes, and Colleen Thomas. In the winter of 2010, Sophie co-founded Lonely goat Dance Company with Liz Young. Sophie's work has been shown at the 2010 American College Dance Festival at BU, Studio A in New London, CT, Rooftop Performance Series in Brooklyn, NY, Triskelion Arts, The Construction Company, The Dragon's Egg, Galapagos Art Space, and Art CartNYC. Upcoming performances include Green Space in Brookly, NY, and the Asheville Fringe Festival in NC. Sophie recently moved to northampton, MA, where she hopes to present her work. Lonely Goat Dance is now based out of Brooklyn, NY, and Northampton, MA.

Lonely Goat Dance Company is the brainchild of Liz Young (Brooklyn,NY) and Sophie Maguire (Northampton, MA). The company shows work by both directors in the hopes of cultivating a well rounded approach to dance and performance art. Please visit our website to view our work.
