I began my passion for art while sitting next to my grandfather Benjamin. I watched him draw for hours and listened to his stories of Italy and the great Italian Renaissance Masters. At the age of 5, I began to understand and appreciate portraiture while trying to follow each pencil sketch my grandfather drew with such ease and pleasure.
By the age of 11, he began painting with me using only oils. He would tell me the importance of light and shadow while we worked on a portrait of my grandmother together. This was the beginning of what lit my soul on fire with passion to recreate life, emotion, and the importance of a moment.
From that time on, I would begin to explore new ideas, study the masters throughout history and come to appreciate their expressions of the human experience. All the more, it makes me want to continue my own explorations and interpretations of the world through sharp contrasts, impasto paint and depth of subject. I am forever searching and constantly face the never-ending struggle to grow, learn and share my ideas with my audience hopefully enriching their lives through art.
