ARTIST STATEMENT:
Facing adulthood, I find myself contemplating what is truly important in my life and what would be most meaningful to pursue. Using introspective images of myself and my friends to illustrate this time of life, the teenagers in my paintings search for a meaningful path and value in their existence. I ask the viewer to view the transition from dependence to independence with the drama it deserves; it is the essence of becoming an adult. However, the more compelling theme, which is represented by the images in my work, is the act of searching. In a world represented as a "blank-slate", completely void of meaning, the figure may fill it with whatever understanding they derive from within themselves. This is the essence of my work, the ongoing search for true meaning, which can only come from within the individual.
BIO:
I am currently an art student at Northampton High School and next year will be a freshman at Colorado College. Although my technique and personal vision have greatly matured over the past two years since I first picked up a paint brush, my true passion is art history, which I plan to major in at CC. With this major I will still continue to create art outside of my studies and most likely minor in studio art.
