We're a married couple that carries a one-two punch: I creates detailed traditional and digital art & music and Laura creates intricate and beautiful copper wire jewelry embellished with polished stones and glass beads. We both have a grounding in the natural world and in technology, using tools to refashion nature into materializations of our imaginations.
My drawings, art and music all embrace chance and improvisation. The work flows from either a purely inner vision or is a manipulation of photographs. My pen drawings are wildly mechanical, or picture elaborate cityscapes. My newest work involves the digital manipulation of photographs to create exquisitely colorful 'Rorschach' images, drawing out hidden faces and figures that suggest themselves, and make a strong connection to the mythological memories of our earliest experiences with art and mystery.
Laura's jewelry is classically beautiful but, like my art, does not seek to achieve a 'polite' recreation of other's expectations... It is timeless, using pleasing geometries and surfaces made from copper and stone and glass. The quality and confidence and boldness of her work has grown by leaps and bounds in the past several years.
We hope to see you for Shelburne Falls Arts Walk, and for our reception on Saturday May 5th at METALSTONE (44 State St) from 4pm to 6pm. For more information and examples of David and Laura's work, go to http://www.handofdave.com and http://www.copperowljewelry.com
